Tile

Tile has been used for centuries, and has virtually limitless applications. The most common types of tile are ceramic and porcelain. Ceramic tile is made from clay, or a clay mixture, and fired to create a hard, durable surface. Porcelain tile is simply ceramic tile that has been fired at a hotter temperature so that it is less porous, denser, and wears better. It also resists staining, and is very easy to clean.

Thanks to new technologies, porcelain tile can now be obtained in an array of patterns that previously could not have been achieved. For example, using a special ink, “high definition” tiles can now be created, in patterns that mimic other types of materials. The process involves jetting the ink onto the tiles, with little pattern repeat. In this way it’s possible to create, as an example, porcelain tiles that look exactly like natural wood.

Although our main focus at Stone Tile & Design is flooring, we also offer mosaic and glass tiles that make stunning wall treatments, and can also serve to create decorative accents. The colors, patterns and sizes are practically limitless, and can be used in a variety of imaginative combinations. Glass tiles can be transparent or semi-opaque.
